crop marks - Markers that allow you to easily
get rid of (crop) extra white space around the page.
daisywheel - A round disk that extends a portion
of the wheel making contact with ink ribbon that makes contact with the
paper creating the character and can be found on older computer printers.
This is repeated every time a key is pressed.
default printer - Everything that is printed
will be sent to this printer unless otherwise specified.
electrophotography - A process that's used by
fax machines, laser printers and copying machines that places an electrical
charge onto paper. When exposed to an optical image through light such as a
laser forming from from the static charge. Then toner is spread over the
paper attracting to the static charge portions of the paper. Lastly the
toner is fused to the paper by pressure and heat creating the final print.
laser printer - A type of printer that uses
laser technology to print images on paper. The laser recreates the image on
a negatively charged drum which then collects ink that is positively charged
to attract to the paper and then it is fused onto the paper. The first laser
printer was developed at Xerox PARC in 1971.
printer driver - All most all computers use
special software to link the software applications you use to make images or
documents with your printer. The software that does this is called a printer
driver.
specialty media - High resolution paper, banner
paper, glossy photo paper, glossy photo cards, high gloss photo film and
t-shirt transfers are types of specialty media.
printer driver settings - Printer drivers
usually have different settings that can be used to adjust the colors and
output of documents and graphic presentations.
inkjet printer - Uses a printing technology that
is non-impact. It composes programmed patterns of ink dots that create
graphics and text.
interface - A data conversion device that is
used for communication between the printer and the computer. (like a
parallel cable)
run minimized - Stops the control panel from
being on your computer screen every time you print something.
poster - An enlarged print or picture.
printer icon - A symbol that represents your
printer program.
orientation - Landscape and portrait
orientations define which direction an imaged is printed on paper. For most
paper types landscape means wide and portrait means tall. Landscape
orientation is usually used for envelopes, spread sheets and transparencies.
Portrait orientation is mostly used for reports and correspondence.
handouts - A way to distribute many pages of
information in a reduced form.
bundle - A stack of papers that folded together.
tiles - One tile equals one page of your poster.
print cartridge - The ink tank and print head
unit.
